AEC is a prolific importer and exporter of automobiles to domestic and foreign markets. A long time client, we have helped this company with a number of marketing initiatives over the years. When AEC Europe secured export rights from Chrysler for a number of Dodge offerings we were asked to assist with the marketing of their new venture. This would include a range of work including brochures for the Dodge Durango, Ram, Challenger and Charger, media advertising, product data sheets, and other POP materials produced for German and English speaking markets in Europe.

One of my long time agency clients has traditionally had a large presence in the Credit Union industry. This has afforded me the unique opportunity to work with more than 40 different Credit Union clients.

Competing with the big banks, Credit Unions face difficult operational and marketing challenges. It is essential that they use their marketing dollars effectively to promote their financial services, and their core values of superior customer service.

My goal working with Credit Unions is to help them to build trusted brands. My approach is to promote a positive, professional image, with a dash of creativity and good humour, to make customers feel good about the choice to bring their financial needs to a Credit Union.

Niagara Composites is a manufacturer of flyer bows and assemblies used in the production of fiber optic cable. An innovative and dynamic company, they came to us with the goal of completely reimagining their corporate image and communications to help them confidently promote their products worldwide. Their brief was as straightforward as it was challenging, provide them with deliverables that were impactful and professional, to position them as an industry leader in their field. This would include an extensive rebranding including new identity design and a full range of communications including brochures and sales support literature, advertising, a new website and tradeshow materials.

Niagara Composites is a manufacturer of flyer bows and assemblies used in the production of fiber optic cable. They came to us with the goal of completely reimagining their corporate image and communications. The Right Chemistry

Approaching the creation of the Niagara Composites logo my goal was a visual that abstractly represented the form and function of their products and the high-tech chemistry of the compounds used in their manufacture. As I imagined their flyer bows spinning and flexing on cable stranding machines I started to think of the atomic model and the arc of electrons around the nucleus. After sketching out several ideas substituting the nucleus for cable strands and electron arcs for flyer bows I soon had the graphic I envisioned pinned down. Typeset with the Simian font that compliments the curves of the graphic and presents with a clean, industrial feel, the basis for an effective identity to support the client’s brand was complete.

CREATIVE

Niagara Composites did not wish to illustrate their products or manufacturing processes directly in headline creative. Instead, they wanted a conceptual approach that emphasized the high performance of their products and their position as an industry leader. To answer this request I turned to sports metaphors. Utilizing effective stock imagery and Photoshop manipulation I was able to create dynamic images that gave their communications the impact they desired.

Designed for maximum visibility and readability on any background and at any size, the compact form of the Better Barriers logo is easily incorporated into Quest packaging design to create an instantly recognizable mark for consumers.

Taking inspiration from the bold and colourful Warner Brothers animation logo, I crafted a brand identity that integrated the excellent illustrative work being produced for the Beak Bites television commercial to help create Beak Bites' playful yet premium presence in the marketplace.

Modular Makeover

When it came time for a refresh of the Cat5Gear website we took the opportunity to refresh and repurpose the company's brand assets as well. Taking my cue from the original logo I designed with the 5 bike mascot I set out to create a modular set of brand assets that would allow for a wider range of applications while at the same time retaining the established brand equity. The result is a flexible set of branding elements including the full logo with mascot, the corporate wordmark, wordmark with tagline, standalone tagline and cat5 fat and skinny lines.

Niagara Partnership Conference

The Partnership that Builds Niagara Conference was an industry and labour sponsored event to promote contractor and trade associations in the Niagara region. The scope of this project was particularly broad involving logos and branding for NPECA and MCAN, brochures for all four major sponsors, new websites for three of the sponsors, and conference specific materials such as bannerstands, tradeshow booth, training aids, promotional products and advertising.

My Creative Adventure

As a designer and art director I have had the opportunity to work with clients in diverse industries including financial services, manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare and pharma, tourism, education, retail, professional services and more. I bring to the table experience in brand development, advertising and communications, packaging, website design and development, and project management.

A brief history of my career...
I received my formal training at Sheridan College, Ontario, in the Technical Animation program. In 1998 I joined WAM Interactive as a studio designer, then moved to The Graphix Works in 1999. In 2001 I was awarded several large contracts to produce photo composite illustrations for the prominent stock agency Eyewire Inc. (now part of Getty Images) and returned to freelance work. Since 2001 I have worked principally as senior designer on a contract basis for several agencies including The Graphix Works, Paragon Creative Group and Masterson & Associates.

Terry has been the senior graphic designer for The Graphix Works on a full-time and contract basis for nearly 20 years.
An expert in Adobe Creative Suite, Terry creates imagery and designs for our client projects that is second to none and
elevates the level of our work beyond client expectations. In addition to traditional design skills, Terry has sound
expertise in both website design and development. What this means is that our clients can expect the same cutting
edge design for their web solutions as they’ve grown accustomed to for their print needs.
